Maddie Heath – From Hip Surgery To Aussie Reps

From the moment Maddi Heath picked up a bat when she was 4 years old, baseball has been her passion.

She has been a representative player since the age of 9, she has been part of the Australian Senior squad since 2017 and has played for NSW every year since 2018. The now 22-year-old has been National Champion twice, and the Australian Women’s Showcase player, twice.

In August 2022, Maddi underwent major hip surgery which required her to be non-weight bearing for 12 weeks, followed by self-driven rehab and numerous specialist appointments.

Determined to get back out and play, Maddi worked hard to repair her injury and it paid off. After just 8 months off – a lot less than expected, she returned to the diamond.

And this month, she will represent Australia in the Women’s World Cup in Thunder Bay, playing national teams during an 8-day tournament.

Representing Australia has always been the goal for Maddi and when COVID lockdowns forced the cancellation of the last world cup, she had to patiently wait for her chance to be selected this time around.

Maddi says she can’t wait to play against the best in the world.
