Celebrating 1 Year – On Point Catering

We’re celebrating a big milestone at Sporties this month!

It’s the first anniversary of the On Point Catering team taking over operations at Indulge Brasserie.

On 11 July 2022, Mitch and Elianna were appointed as our in-club caterers and were tasked with two goals: refresh the restaurant offering and reimagine the food concept so it caters for everyone.

Mitch has worked in hospitality for more than 10 years, working as a chef, and then moving into a senior management role running 11 club kitchens across New South Wales and looking after 110 chefs.

He admits the decision to take the plunge and start On Point Catering with his wife was the best – and scariest – thing he’s ever done.

“We knew taking over the food offerings at Sporties was going to be an adventure. We went from working with a huge team, to going out on our own with no employees, and then back up to a team of 28 within a few months.

“The food side of things has been fun. Having the creative freedom that we hadn’t necessarily had in the past was probably the best part. Introducing food items that we knew members and guests would enjoy, but also trying new things to see what worked and what didn’t.”

Elianna says her tastes are quite different to Mitch, which is why they work so well together.

“He is quite old school whereas I’m new school… I like keeping an eye on current trends and seeing what other people are doing, and then coming up with our own version. Even when it comes to traditional Club fare, I’m always thinking of ways we can modernise it.

Enhancing the connection with the community and our sporting clubs is another thing Mitch and Elie have focused on.

“We wanted to show the kids playing local sport that this is their club too, and that a kid’s meal isn’t their only option for lunch or dinner. The American-style burgers and hot dogs at Half Time Diner are great for kids wanting to refuel after a game. We even tried to make the names a bit of fun.

The On Point Team

Reflecting on the first 12 months of On Point Catering – and working together as a couple, Mitch and Elie both agree on the biggest milestone they’ve achieved.

“We’re still married!

“To be where we are now with everything we have created and achieved over the past year, all the blood, sweat, and tears have been worth it.

“It’s been an exciting 12 months and such an incredible journey. A huge thank you to Club management who have given us so much support. And to the members, we wouldn’t be here without you, so thank you”.
