Nominate A Neighbour

In June 2022, Moorebank Sporties launched a new initiative to recognise members of our local community who go above and beyond for others.

The ‘Nominate A Neighbour Award’ encourages people to share stories about the quiet achievers in their neighbourhood, those who make a real difference in the lives of others but rarely get the recognition they deserve.

As a small token of our appreciation for their contribution to our community, winners receive $1,000.

We received an overwhelming number of submissions in the first round of nominations, but the standout was Daniel Jeffcoat, who created a ‘Street Library’ in Derna Road, Holsworthy.  He was also an active member of the Fairy Glen Committee during Covid-19 lockdowns, making over 1,000 fairy doors for local kids to explore!

Daniel also supports local sporting groups with sponsorship and helps with community grant and building works in the local area.

The second round of nominations, which closed in February 2023, saw almost double the number of submissions sent in.

The winner of the second Nominate A Neighbour round was 10-year-old Joel who cut his long hair to raise money for sick kids across the country. He had been growing his hair for 3-4 years when he decided to set up a GoFundMe page and lop it all off for a good cause.

Joel smashed his goal of $5,000 and raised a total of $7,142. He also donated his hair to make a wig for the Kids With Cancer Organisation.

Know a local hero who deserves recognition? Nominate them for our ‘Nominate a Neighbour Award’ and they could receive $1,000 as a token of our appreciation for their contributions to our community.
