Sporties Supports Building A Safer Community

Earlier this week, members of the Sporties management team attended the Mounties Group – Building A Safer Community Club Industry Training Program, which is designed to empower participants with the knowledge and skills to address domestic violence (DV) within their clubs and communities.

Over two days, the team gained insights from DV experts and an increased awareness of the various forms of violence, gained a deeper understanding of our club’s role as an employer and service provider, and learned practical skills and strategies for identifying and responding to abuse.

To say the event was a very raw and eye-opening experience would be an understatement.

  • 1 in 4 Australian women has experienced domestic violence by an intimate partner or family member since the age of 15
  • 82 per cent of women who experience violence by a current intimate partner do not report it to the police
  • Police respond to more than 140,000 domestic and family violence calls every year
  • It’s estimated that violence against women and children costs the economy $26 billion every year in Australia

As a result of this workshop, Sporties is now developing an action plan to assist members of staff and those in our community who may be experiencing domestic and family violence.

Sporties would like to thank Mounties Group for hosting this event, Arely Carrion and Michelle Pascoe for facilitating the workshop, and to the sponsors and supporters who made it happen.
