At Moorebank Sports Club, we believe that community is built by those who lead with kindness — the neighbours who check in, show up, and make a quiet but powerful difference. Through our Nominate a Neighbour initiative, we recognise and reward these everyday heroes who help shape our neighbourhood into the welcoming, supportive place we’re proud to call home.
Last month, we were honoured to host a morning tea to celebrate our winner and two incredible runner-ups. Each of them represents the very best of community spirit.
Winner: Kristy Hurley
Kristy Hurley’s story moved us deeply. Nominated by her husband, Kristy was recognised for her incredible work as a social worker at Liverpool Hospital, her unwavering dedication to the community, and the compassion she brings into every corner of her life.
“She does it for love, not recognition,” her husband shared. “She’s a miracle. The world is full of impatience and turmoil — people like Kristy remind us that kindness still leads the way.”
From her work supporting families in crisis to caring for her own neurodiverse daughter, Kristy leads with strength, empathy, and grace. We’re proud to celebrate her as this round’s Nominate a Neighbour winner.
Community Champion: James ‘Buck’ McFarlane
James “Buck” McFarlane is the kind of neighbour everyone wishes they had. A lifelong Hammondville resident, Buck has dedicated his time and heart to both his community and his family — caring for his elderly mother and creating opportunities for the blind and low-vision community to live life to the fullest through travel and social events.
“He’s the first to put up his hand to help anyone, at any time,” his nominator wrote. “He never asks for anything in return.”
Buck has also volunteered with the Starlight Children’s Foundation, helping grant wishes for kids in need. His selflessness and generosity are truly inspiring.
Community Champion: Narelle Bryson
Described as the heart of her street, Narelle Bryson was nominated for her constant acts of kindness. Whether it’s gardening for neighbours, cooking meals, bringing in bins, or even helping with home renovations, Narelle goes above and beyond to support those around her — especially the elderly and disabled.
“She’s always offering a helping hand,” her neighbour wrote. “All while being the sole caregiver to her autistic grandson.”
Narelle’s generosity never comes with strings attached — but her impact is felt by everyone lucky enough to live nearby. Her nomination was a beautiful reminder that the smallest acts of kindness often leave the biggest mark.
We’re incredibly proud to recognise Kristy, Buck, and Narelle for all they do. Thank you to everyone who submitted nominations and shared the stories of the people who help make our community stronger every day.
Moorebank Sports Club is honoured to be part of a neighbourhood filled with such compassion, resilience, and heart.
