On Wednesday 4 September, we celebrated some wonderful members of our community with our fifth ‘Nominate A Neighbour’ morning tea.
Nominate A Neighbour encourages people to share stories about the quiet achievers in their neighbourhood, those who make a real difference in the lives of others but rarely get the recognition they deserve.
Each round, we choose one winner to receive $1,000 cash, and a few Community Champion runners-up who each get $200 Sporties Dollars.
This round’s winner was Elaine Sampson who was nominated by three different individuals. Elaine is being recognised for the kindness and generosity she shows towards the other residents in her townhouse complex.
Elaine looks after pets, takes the bins out for everyone, waters gardens, and checks in on those she hasn’t heard from in a while. She sticks Happy Birthday banners on people’s doors when it’s their birthday and does runs to the chemist if anyone needs medication.
She does all of this despite living with a disability and social anxiety, which makes it hard for her to leave the townhouse complex.
Sporties would like to thank Elaine for her incredible community spirit.
Our first Community Champion is Lauren Taurima who has dedicated the past few months to helping the Tarei family, following mum-of-six Pania’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
Lauren has been able to raise over $500,000 and has collected food hampers and vouchers for Pania’s husband Michael and their kids, all while raising five kids of her own.
And our second Community Champion for this round is Rebecca Aluning who donates her time to Liverpool Community Kitchen, providing nutritious meals to community members in need.
Bec has three young children of her own but always finds time to cook food and help in the community kitchen each week.
Sporties thanks Lauren and Bec for their fantastic work in our community.
