Sporties was proud to recently host the inaugural BreastScreen mobile van in our carpark, making it easier for women in our community to access this vital health service close to home.
Over the three-week visit, the response from our community was incredible. A total of 459 women were screened, with the service offering two late-night Thursday sessions and one Saturday clinic to ensure more women could attend at a time that suited them.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone in our community who participated and supported this important initiative. The strong response highlights just how valuable accessible health services are to our members and the wider community.
Due to the success of this visit, the BreastScreen mobile van has already been secured to return to Sporties in two years’ time, allowing those screened this year to conveniently return to the Sporties carpark location for their next recommended check.
Alison Hester, Community Manager at Sporties, said the initiative demonstrates the important role community clubs can play in supporting local health outcomes.
“We are incredibly proud to have partnered with the BreastScreen team to bring this service directly to our community. Seeing 459 women take the time to prioritise their health during the visit was fantastic. If hosting the van at Sporties has helped make screening easier and encouraged even more women to book their mammogram, then we know this partnership is making a real difference.”
